The Director of Engineering leads the engineering function at our HVAC manufacturing facility in Mexico. This position is responsible for overseeing manufacturing engineering, process optimization, new product introduction (NPI), equipment maintenance, and facility improvements. The role plays a critical part in supporting production volume, driving operational excellence, and ensuring world-class manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of engineering teams supporting manufacturing operations, process engineering, tooling, and maintenance.
Lead the successful industrialization and launch of new HVAC products through structured NPI processes, ensuring alignment with production capabilities and timelines.
Oversee plant layout design, equipment selection, installation, and commissioning in collaboration with cross-functional and global teams.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, and cost using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and TPM methodologies.
Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
Collaborate with production, quality, supply chain, and corporate engineering to resolve technical issues and implement best practices.
Support capital projects and investment planning related to capacity expansion, automation, and infrastructure upgrades.
Ensure compliance with local environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as corporate policies.
Develop, coach, and retain high-performing engineering and maintenance teams, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s or MBA is a plus).
10+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in HVAC or similar industries.
Proven track record in manufacturing engineering, NPI, plant layout, and equipment maintenance.
Strong knowledge of Mexican regulatory and safety requirements (NOMs, STPS, etc.).
Experience leading engineering teams in high-volume production settings.
Fluent in English and Spanish; capable of working with global and local teams.
Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
